Assistant Coach Joel Fender
Coaching Duties
I was born and raised in Southeast Georgia, in a little town called Homerville. It is about 40 miles from the Florida line, and its main claim to fame is the Okefenokee Swamp, which is partially located in my home county. I graduated from Valdosta State in 92, and moved to upstate NY, where I lived for about 10 years before returning to Georgia. I have lived in Dekalb county since 2006 and have worked at Lakeside since 2007. I have been married to my lovely wife Beth for 13 years, and between us we have raised three Kids whom we are very proud of.
Softball Philosophy
Lakeside JV softball has a mixture of talents and levels of experience. Many of our players are new to softball, as I am relatively new to coaching it. I try focus on fundamentals with our players, and always tell them to be intentional in practice. We do drills for a reason, and our skills and game will improve if we take our practice seriously and are mindful of the goal of our drills. My goal for the players and for myself is to have fun and improve, and for the girls someday making varsity and being an asset to the program. Win or lose-keep it classy!
