About Lakeside High School

Lakeside High School, located in Atlanta, Georgia, is part of the DeKalb County School System. LHS students have excelled in both academics and athletics since the school opened in 1965. Many awards and honors have reflected the outstanding dedication to academic and athletic excellence by the students, parents and staff. In 1985, Lakeside was honored as a State and National School of Excellence; an honor which reflects the positive relationship between the school and community.  In the 2008 edition of Newsweek Nation’s Best High Schools, Lakeside was ranked second in Georgia.  In 2012, the Washington Post High School Challenge List rated Lakeside 289th nationally, 13th in Georgia, and first in DeKalb County.

For the 2013-14 and 2014-15 athletic seasons, Lakeside High School was awarded the Region 6-AAAAA Cooperative Spirit Sportsmanship Award by the Georgia High School Association.  The Region 6-AAAAA schools that competed with Lakeside selected them for the award due to their show of sportsmanship throughout the entire year. Lakeside was one of 48 schools recognized from across the state.

Beginning in 2016, the Lakeside Vikings play in Georgia High School Association Region 7-AAAAAAA.  In addition to Lakeside, this 7-team region includes Gwinnett County schools Berkmar, Brookwood, Central Gwinnett, Meadowcreek. Norcross, and Parkview.
